Abstract

The paper examines the decline in the Republic of Moldova’s exports during 2024–2025, focusing on structural causes and recovery directions in the context of European integration. The study relies on statistical data from the National Bureau of Statistics and international sources (Eurostat, ITC), complemented by insights from academic literature. The results show that the export downturn is not solely driven by conjunctural factors, such as the war in Ukraine, but mainly by internal vulnerabilities: dependence on agri-food products, limited market diversification, weak logistics infrastructure, and incoherent trade policies. The main conclusion is that reversing the decline requires industrial and technological modernization, product and market diversification, and full use of opportunities provided by the DCFTA and recent trade agreements, including the one with EFTA countries.
