IMAGINEA ORAȘULUI CAHUL ÎN ÎNSEMNĂRILE DE CĂLĂTORIE STRĂINE: SCHEIA DIN ȚINUTUL CĂRLIGĂTURA

Abstract

Through the methodological grid of imagology we intend to analyze the testimonies left by foreign travelers / visitors and to present based on them a first image of the place / territory where the city of Cahul is today. At the beginning came different scholars, hierodeacons, bishops, merchants of different nationalities, each with their own purposes, some spreading catholicism, others engaged in business, some of them were just passing through this piece of land. Therefore, some have left several testimonies, others only vague data about this place. Using historical sources, the given territory also had other names, such as: Scheia and Frumoasa. In this article we intend to present a first image of the city directly represented by the name of Scheia village from Cărligătura’s Land. Positive images are reviewed, such as: safe place, without dangers, „fair on the Siret river”, „village with three churches”, but also negative ones: poor, deserted, sparsely populated, with barren lands, etc. The accumulated set of images about this territory contributes to the imagological patrimony of the moldavian and of Moldova in general.
