Abstract
This study presents a qualitative analysis of free association data regarding the concept of quality of life as perceived by university students. The concept encompasses a broader scope than individual living standards, addressing all aspects of the conditions in which people live, including their needs and aspirations. According to the World Health Organization, quality of life refers to individuals’ perceptions of their position in life within the context of the culture and value systems in which they live, and in relation to their goals, expectations, standards, and concerns. This interpretation supports the idea that quality of life is a subjective assessment embedded within cultural, social, and environmental contexts. The research sample included 256 participants—both undergraduate and master’s students from Romania. The findings indicate that students perceive quality of life as a holistic and subjective experience that transcends material possessions or academic success.
