Abstract
This article discusses the issue of cinema in the Moldovan SSR in the context of communist ideological indications, both at the local and at the union level. Through the archival sources, the main directions and documents that determined the vector of local fiction film, such as its conformity with communist ideals, its youth-orientation or its anti-religious character, are traced. Despite the fact that the filmmakers of the “MoldovaFilm” studio sometimes managed to avoid the party filters, failure to comply with them could cause consequences. In this context, we note the way in which the party authorities continuously tightened control over the film industry during the years 1957–1970, culminating in the issuance of the secret Resolution of the CPSU “On increasing the responsibility of the heads of press, radio, television, cinema, cultural and art institutions for the ideological and political level of published materials and repertoire” of 7 January 1969, which gave censors new tools to undermine ideas that were inconsistent with the party line.
