Abstract

This article comparatively analyzes the general education system in the Republic of Moldova (RM) and the Netherlands (NL), starting from the central hypothesis that education in the RM remains predominantly focused on memorization and reproduction, while in the Netherlands the emphasis is placed on critical thinking, application of knowledge and solving complex problems. The analysis is based on recent statistical data (PISA 2022, OECD reports, the Ministry of Education and Research of the Republic of Moldova and the Netherlands, curriculum documents) and is structured around five fundamental dimensions: student performance, curriculum orientation, assessment, pedagogical practices and school autonomy and invested resources. The results highlight significant differences in student performance, pedagogical methods and resource allocation, highlighting the importance of a real transition from a reproductive model to one focused on skills.
