Every enterprise must be prepared to respond to the constant changes that are characteristic of the
national economy. For efficiency and competitiveness, companies are required to use creative and innovative
methods. The state with its own efforts, financial support from the European Union and other donors have
created measures to support SMEs. The reality of the economy shows that businesses are more likely to survive
and thrive when they create something new. In this paper we will analyze the main indicators of the activity of
innovative SMEs, we will also present the main obstacles that underlie the efficiency of the SME sector.
