Item ANTIMICROBIAL AND ANTIFUNGAL ACTIVITY OF CU(II) AND BI(III) COMPLEXES BASED ON AMINOPOLYCARBOXYLATE IONS AND 2-FORMYL AND 2-ACETYLPYRIDINE THIO- SEMICARBAZONES(2021) Neguța, Elena; Balan, Greta; Gulea, Aurelian; Bulimestru, IonThe biological properties of thiosemicarbazones are often related to metal coordination, which as result affects lipophilicity that controls the rate of entry into the cell. Metal complexes are generally more active than the free ligand, or the metal complex can be a vehicle for activation of the ligand as the cytotoxic agent. Among biologically ac- tive metal compounds, copper (II) complexes with 2-formyl and 2-acetylpyridine thio- semicarbazones proved to be among the most potent antiviral, antitumor and anti-inflam- matory agents. Bismuth compounds have been widely used in medicine for more than two centuries due to their high effectiveness and low toxicity. In the antimicrobial realm, ap- plications have been widespread, due to bismuth antiseptic, astringent, protective, ant- acid, antisecretory and local gastrointestinal properties.Item SYNTHESIS AND BIOLOGICAL ACTIVITY OF COPPER(II), NICKEL(II) AND COBALT(III) COORDINATION COMPOUNDS WITH 2-BENZOYLPYRIDINE N(4)-ALLYL-SMETHYLISOTHIOSEMICARBAZONE(2018) Usataia, Irina; Graur, Vasilii; Zariciuc, Elena; Garbuz, Olga; Gulea, AurelianThe paper presents the synthesis of the 2-benzoylpyridine N(4)-allyl-S-methylisothiosemicarbazone and five coordination compounds of copper(II), nickel(II) and cobalt(III) with this ligand. New synthesized substances were studied using IR and NMR (1H and 13C) spectroscopies, elemental analysis, molar conductivity and magnetochemical research. It was studied in vitro antimicrobial and antifungal activities against a wide range of standard strains Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 25923), Escherihia coli (ATCC 25922), Klebsiella pneumonae and Candida albicans for synthesized substances. The study of the antiproliferative properties in vitro of the pro-ligand and complexes was tested on the human myeloid leukemia HL-60 and cervical cancer HeLa cells..Item SYNTHESIS AND BIOLOGICAL ACTIVITY OF NICKEL AND COPPER COORDINATION COMPOUNDS OF 5-NITROFURAN-2-CARBALDEHYDE N(4)-ALLYL-3-THIOSEMICARBAZONE(CEP USM, 2014) Graur, Vasilii; Zariciuc, Elena; Tsapkov, Victor; Barba, Nina; Gulea, AurelianThe paper presents the synthesis of the ligand 5-nitrofuran-2-carbaldehyde N(4)-allyl-3-thiosemicarbazone (HL) and eight coordination compounds of copper(II) and nickel(II) with this ligand. The structure of thiosemicarbazone HL was studied using 1 H and 13С NMR spectroscopy. For the synthesized compounds their antimicrobial and antifungal activity was studied on a series of standard strains. For HL and Cu(HL)2(NO3)2 the antitumor activity towards human leukemia HL-60 cells was estimated. It was established that coordination compounds manifest better activity than free ligand.
