    The development of fan-generated translations: the case of fansubbing (based on the English and Russian material)

    This paper explores fan-generated translations, specifically fansubbing, in English and Russian materials. It compares professional subtitling and amateur fansubbing practices using the case study of “Star Trek: Into Darkness”. It also discusses the ethical and legal issues surrounding fansubbing, its role in shaping media accessibility, the cross-cultural exchange, and the challenges faced by fansubbers in preserving cultural nuances. The study provides a practical understanding of fan-made subtitles and their cultural significance in a globalised digital era.
