Abstract
This study presents a comprehensive investigation of the structural and optical properties of SnS and SnS₂ compounds, integrating techniques such as powder X-ray diffraction, electron microscopy, and optical spectroscopy. The X-ray diffraction analysis confirms the identification of phases and lattice parameters, revealing the effects of synthesis conditions on crystalline quality and crystallite size. Electron microscopy illustrates the layered growth of the materials, with dimensions around 5 nm, bonded through Van der Waals forces. Optical characterization highlights absorption edges corresponding to band-gap energies of approximately 1.25 eV for SnS and about 2.0 eV for SnS₂, with absorption coefficients reaching up to 10⁵ cm⁻¹ in nanostructured forms. Applications in photovoltaics, photocatalysis, and photodetection are discussed, emphasizing the materials’ capability for energy harvesting.
