Medieval Text Processing: Use Case of Romanian Uncial Writing [Articol]

Abstract

This paper discusses the application of ABBYY FineReader or the recognition of three Romanian manuscripts written in uncial Cyrillic script. The manuscripts, dating from the 16th century, were digitized and processed achieving an OCR accuracy between 75% and 85%. The study demonstrates the effectiveness of specialized OCR models in handling historical texts with unique orthographic and paleographic features.
