Abstract
numit
boreout
(i.e., plictiseala la locul de muncă
)
Recent studies in the field of organizatio nal psychology reveal that not only work overload (the burnout syndrome, intensively investigated in the recent years), but also th e underload at the workplace can be a source of stress and exhaustion. This phenomenon is called boreout and refers to the condition under which employees have relatively a limited number of tasks at work or monotonous and uninteresting assignments. This is actually the reverse of the burnout syndrome and is characterized by similar symptoms, even if the causes ar e different. Given that there is scant attention paid to this subject in the specialized literature, th is article is intended to clarify certain aspects regarding the manifestations, causes and triggering factors of the boreout syndrome, including ways to diminish it. In addition, a few research directions of this phenomenon in the academic and organizational contexts are provided.
