Abstract

The proclamation of independence of the Republic of Moldova on August 27, 1991, impelled the revision of the educational system in the country, inherited from the Soviet period,which was valid in the Republic of Moldova until 1995. In the three decades of independence, the educational system in the Republic of Moldova went through several reforms, which aimed at modernizing and democratizing education, creating the conditions for capitalizing on the potential of every child, regardless of the financial situation of the family, the place of residence, ethnicity, language or religious choices of parents. For the Republic of Moldova, education is a national priority and the basic factor in the transmission and creation of new cultural and human values, in the development of human capital, in the formation of national consciousness and identity and has a key role in creating the premises for sustainable human development and building a knowledge-based society. The quality of education largely determines the quality of life and creates opportunities for the fulfillment of every citizen.
