Abstract

The article deals with the conceptualization of competence concept and studies the features of the professional competence. The concept of competence is studied from different perspectives: behaviourist perspective; the generic perspective which studies the characteristics of the best performers; and the cognitive dimension which express idea that the professional competence is capacity to act as a flexible and adaptable to different contexts and problematic situations. The author supports the idea that the attitude plays the main role in achieving performance in the context of competencybased education. The idea that professional behavior integrates personality traits, including character features and motivation, is essential for the author. The article also considers the fact that professional competence is more effective when is based on values. This fact is considered very important when it comes to the question of students’ moral profile
The article presents sequences of qualitative research conducted during the development of the Framework of Reference of the National Curriculum under a recent major project, initiated by the Moldovan Ministry of Education, supported by the Soros Foundation Moldova. It insists on the need to optimize the curriculum as a document of prime importance of education policy, encouraged the student-centered learning, creating a friendly and open environment for relationships, building dynamic and flexible learning communities, education for democratic citizenship. In this context, it performed an extensive analysis of the needs of all educational actors: students, parents, teachers and managers, employers, as well as ordinary people in the street who may we suggest original ideas regarding the school and encompassing it within the curriculum.
