    DEZVOLTAREA MUZEELOR ÎN REPUBLICA MOLDOVA

    The museums of Republic of Moldova remain still the most accessible cultural in - stitutions capable to transmit cultural values through the collections they hold and they have a big potential to be the active participants in the formation of the spiritual values of the human being and society. During the last years the cultural policy became one of the priorities for the development of the Republic of Moldova. According to the new policy, the cultural sector will become a viable area that will have a great impact on the economy and social life of the country. Moldova’s heritage and museums can become not only an attraction for the tourists and the local visitors but also to be con- sidered as an economy sector. Museum sector can also become an active participant in the process of European integration. According to the strategy the heritage and museum sector should review the management system and to introduce a new management based on contemporary market relations and project activity. At present in Moldova there are 130 museums. Seven museums with 14 branches subordinate to the Ministry of Culture: the National Museum of Ethnography and Natural History (MNEIN), National Art Museum (NAM), the National Museum of History (MNI), House museum „A.S. Pushkin”, Cultural Reservation – Orheiul Vechi (here after RC-N OV), the National Museum of Literature and Museum of Jewish History of the Republic of Moldova. The Ministry of Culture has a mandate to monitor the work of museums that are in public ownership. More than 100 regional Museums subordinated to the local authority which provide the museum’s annual budget. Accordingly to the National Bureau of Statistics, the movable heritage from the museum’s collections in Moldova, counts 1.527.308 objects. The numerous archaeological objects found in excavations, objects of ethnography, historical documents, medieval art and icons, works of contemporary art are being kept in museums
